Short Biography

Andrew Harrison is a classical saxophonist whose playing draws from the expressive lineage of the great violin and cello soloists. Hailed for “electric performances of stunning expression” (Classical Sonoma) and lyricism of “high voltage” (New York Concert Review), he unites virtuosity with a warm, vocal sound. As a concerto soloist, Harrison has appeared with the Santa Rosa Symphony, Chandler Symphony, Sonoma County Philharmonic, South Valley Symphony, the Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, and numerous college and university wind orchestras nationwide. He is the co-founding artist of Duo HaLo with pianist Jason Lo; their album Imaginary Folksongs (Azure Sky Records) explores the saxophone’s capacity for vocal tradition and storytelling. Harrison’s solo album In the City with Clare Longendyke features premiere recordings of works written specifically for him, underscoring his commitment to expanding the instrument’s contemporary voice. A prizewinner of The American Prize, the LMC Frances Walton Competition, and the U.S. “Pershing’s Own” Concerto Competition, Harrison serves as Professor of Classical Saxophone at Sonoma State University.
